Work Commute Ride – 54km

10 05 2011

My first weekday ride and my first commuter ride were completed today at 27km each way. I have quickly realized that getting to work and back on my bike, while less convenient, actually takes about the same amount of time! This is definitely something for me to think about now that the warmer weather is here.

My route took me from Bayview & Eglinton across the city and into Mississauga to Dixie & Eglinton. Traffic was great in the morning and, aside from a few people that obviously never learned how to share, the ride was quite civilized.

P.S. I love the actual “bike highway” that runs along the west end of Eglinton… why don’t we have more of these?

OUCH… Kipling to Oakville (58km)

9 05 2011

Today was a wonderful ride from Kipling Station to Oakville (downtown) with the Friends for Life Bike Rally. The weather was amazing for a ride and the usual winds that accompany this route were at a minimum.

Oakville downtown is great and full of nice shops and cafés.

My ouch moment for the ride was at the very end when we were heading back into the parking lot. I had my first fall of the season due to my water bottle bouncing out of the cage and getting lodged under my back tire, causing me to skid out. My body slid across the ground, but thankfully no serious injuries; just a little bit of road rash on my leg and some bruising from hitting the ground.

Right back into it this week though with my first midweek ride planned for tomorrow – Toronto to Mississauga.
